Farewell driving licence: these drivers can lose it in October if they don't do this

Portuguese drivers should check the validity of their driving licence during October, as renewal rules vary according to the date the licence was obtained. Those who obtained their licence before January 2013 must renew at 50, 60, 65 and 70 years old, with renewal then becoming every two years after 70. For licences obtained between 2013 and 2016, the first renewal follows the date indicated on the licence, followed by renewals every 15 years until age 60. Licences obtained after July 2016 have their first renewal 15 years later. From age 60, an electronic medical certificate is required. If validity expires, the driver is prevented from driving legally and may face additional requirements to recover the title.
