Valpi reaches 100 years with 20 electric buses and new infrastructure in Penafiel

Jornal 36011 September 2026 at 15:39

Valpi Bus celebrates its centenary in 2026 with a significant transformation of its operations in the Tâmega e Sousa region. The company, founded in 1926 and origin of the current Valpi Group, will receive 20 100% electric buses from the HIGER brand, with zero direct emissions, and a new charging infrastructure at the Penafiel Transport Hub, in Novelas. The official presentation is scheduled for September 17.

The new infrastructure features 20 high-power charging points, with a total installed capacity of 2,000 kW. The project also includes intelligent energy management and preventive maintenance systems, allowing the company to manage the entire electric operation from the Penafiel facility.

The project was developed in partnership with REMO – Powered by Mota-Engil and is part of a broader strategy to decarbonize public transport in the region, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan. Valpi Bus formalized the investment through a public tender involving the acquisition of electric vehicles and charging equipment with European funding associated with the PRR.

According to Eduardo Caramalho, director of Valpi Bus, achieving 100 years of activity represents a source of pride, but the most important thing is to continue looking forward. The company considers that the partnership with REMO marks the beginning of a new phase in its history, preparing to enter the second century of operations with electric technology.
