More than half of energy companies in Portugal are over five years old

SAPO Notícias11 September 2026 at 15:20

More than half of the companies in the energy sector in Portugal have been operating for over five years, according to data from Iberinform. This data reveals that the Portuguese energy sector is mostly made up of companies already established in the market.

The information was collected by Iberinform, a business information analysis company. The energy sector in Portugal has undergone several transformations in recent years, especially with the transition to more sustainable energy sources.

The fact that more than 50% of companies have been in existence for over half a decade indicates some maturity and stability in the sector, although it may also suggest difficulties for new companies to enter the Portuguese energy market.

This report from Iberinform provides an overview of the structure and composition of the energy sector in Portugal, showing that companies with some history in the national market predominate.
