At 25 years old, Mariana Van Zeller had been in New York for only one month when the September 11 attacks placed her at the center of one of the events that marked history. Without television experience, the young journalist took on the coverage for SIC and lived, live, the chaos and desperation of a city looking for answers.
The reporter recalls having been super nervous during her first live broadcast, confessing she almost had a heart attack facing the pressure and gravity of the situation at the time.
This moment would mark the beginning of a distinguished career in investigative journalism, with Mariana Van Zeller later becoming known for her work on the "Trafficked" series and as vice president of the research center at Georgetown University.
