Nepal estimated that the reconstruction efforts following the devastating floods caused by a glacier collapse in the Himalayas would cost approximately US$ 4.78 billion, equivalent to about R$ 24.4 billion. The information was released on Friday (11) by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The floods were caused by an avalanche of water, mud, and debris, similar to a tsunami, that struck the border between Tibet, territory controlled by China, and Nepal on August 26. The disaster left more than 1,400 dead and approximately 5,000 missing.
The spokesperson for Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lok Bahadur Chhetri, confirmed to journalists that the estimated total for reconstruction is approximately US$ 4.78 billion. The amount covers the costs to recover the areas devastated by the glacial collapse.
