Lagos will join European Mobility Week between September 16 and 22, an initiative dedicated to sustainability. During this period, the municipal public transport on A ONDA will be free, with the aim of encouraging the use of its 10 existing routes. Parallelly, informative sessions will be held for middle school students and their families about the advantages of public transport.
For citizens who prefer to walk, the Walk15 application will be available, which allows recording daily steps and contributing to Lagos's collective result in the competition with other European cities. On September 18, a Regional Night March will take place with three routes adapted to different mobility levels, in a joint organization with IPDJ.
On the 19th, Artur de Jesus and Francisco Castelo will lead a guided visit focused on urban arteries and the adaptation of public space to new mobility needs. The week concludes on September 22, European Car-Free Day, with the closure to traffic of a section of Avenida dos Descobrimentos between 9am and 5pm, making the space available for sports activities, health screenings and bike rides.
The parishes of Barão de São João, Bensafrim, Luz and Odiáxere are also participating in European Mobility Week with bike rides, walks, equestrian activities and functional training and zumba classes. The program has partners including the municipal company Lagos-em-Forma, the Skate Association, school clusters, the Lagos Living Science Centre, the Tourist Train and local commerce businesses.
