The 29-year-old left-back didn't need to participate in goals or make flashy plays to stand out, being unstoppable in defense and decisive in marking, clearing practically all balls that came into his area.
The player gave another sign that he has been turning things around after receiving various criticisms. Ayrton Lucas achieved a streak of nine consecutive games as a starter in the season, something that wasn't initially expected.
The opening in the starting lineup arose from a physical problem of Alex Sandro, the veteran who hasn't played since the end of July due to tendinitis in his right calf. With the starter absent longer than expected, Ayrton Lucas took over the position and, instead of worrying the technical staff, made the most of the opportunity.
In Quito's altitude, Ayrton Lucas seemed not to feel the adverse environment and showed solidity in defense. Coach Leonardo Jardim didn't need to improvise someone in the sector, confirming the left-back's good form.
