Housing. Measures launched by Portugal confirmed by the EU

Observador11 September 2026 at 13:36

The European Commission confirmed an initiative to support member states in increasing the supply of affordable housing. This measure comes in a context of difficulties in accessing housing in several countries of the European Union.

The Portuguese Government stated that it had already launched measures in this area about two years ago, emphasizing that Portugal did not wait for Europe to act. The national measures were already in implementation before this confirmation by the European Union.

This European initiative aims precisely to encourage member states to develop affordable housing policies, responding to a growing demand that has been verified across the continent. Housing has been identified as one of the main difficulties faced by European citizens, especially in urban areas.
