Postal do Algarve11 September 2026 at 12:45

The Municipal Council of Albufeira held a reception session for teaching staff to mark the beginning of the 2026/2027 school year, an initiative aimed at the educational community and, in particular, at teachers who are now starting to work in the municipality. The meeting began with a musical performance by Barbara Scheffs-Endres, a teacher from the Conservatory, on piano, and student Rita Frias, on violin.

Councilor Maria Cristina Corado welcomed the newly arrived teachers and highlighted the role of already integrated teachers in receiving their new colleagues. According to the councilor, the initiative seeks to bring professionals closer together, promote the sharing of experiences, and introduce Albufeira and its parishes, also emphasizing cooperation between the municipality and school clusters in improving the conditions of educational establishments and supporting the educational community.

The mayor of Albufeira, Rui Cristina, argued that education must occupy a central place in the municipality's actions, stating that "there is no future for Albufeira without strong education." Addressing the teachers, Rui Cristina advocated for a public school with better conditions, close to families and prepared to meet the needs of new generations, acknowledging existing needs in the school infrastructure and committing to working on improving the facilities.

The initiative continued with lunch at Centro Educativo Cerro d'Ouro and ended with a sunset gathering at Jardim Frutuoso Silva, providing an informal environment for contact among teachers and facilitating the integration of newly arrived teachers into the municipality.

Porto considers it "fair" that the State financially helps future works in health centers

The Porto City Council considers it "fair" that the State co-finances future rehabilitation works in the municipality's health centers. The council had already identified, in 2024, several health centers whose rehabilitation could apply to the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), but ended up dropping some applications due to the too short deadlines imposed by the program. The mayor, Rui Moreira, defended the need for state support for these interventions, highlighting that the municipality cannot bear alone all the costs of requalifying health infrastructures.
