In just ten days, rain in Rio city already exceeds September's monthly average

In the first ten days of September, the city of Rio de Janeiro has already recorded rainfall volume above the expected average for the entire month. According to data from the city's Alerta Rio System, 73.5 millimeters fell between September 1st and 10th, while the historical average for the month is 71.1 millimeters. The Municipal Civil Defense sent alerts via SMS and WhatsApp on Friday (11th) warning about rain showers and lightning forecast for the morning period.

The survey conducted by the Alerta Rio System in conjunction with the National Cemaden, State Cemaden, and INMET points to the neighborhoods with the highest accumulated rainfall in the last 24 hours. Laranjeiras and Tijuca recorded the highest rates, both with 32.2 millimeters, followed by Alto da Boa Vista with 31.5 millimeters and Mendanha, in Campo Grande, with 30.6 millimeters.

In Baixada Fluminense, the city of Duque de Caxias had the highest rainfall volume in the state of Rio, with 68.8 millimeters. The Flood Alert System of the State Environmental Institute (INEA) issued an alert warning for the Capivari River level, which is above normal in the Santa Isabel and Jardim Marajó regions.
