Residents of Presidente Epitácio, in western São Paulo, recorded a strong hailstorm that caused damage to vehicles on Thursday (10). The episode occurred amid the Civil Defense alert for intense rains, wind gusts, lightning, and risk of severe events in several regions of the state. More than 30 cities in the interior of São Paulo suspended classes due to the forecast of storms associated with the advance of an extratropical cyclone in the South of the country. The state government also advised stopping outdoor events in regions such as Presidente Prudente, Marília, Itapeva, Sorocaba, and Registro. The Vale do Ribeira is on red alert, with forecast winds between 60 km/h and 100 km/h. In Cotia, in Greater São Paulo, municipal school classes were suspended due to the orange alert and forecast of intense rain. In the metropolitan region of Sorocaba, the State Education Department also halted classes.
