IPCA drops 0.32% in August, with decline in electricity bills and food prices

The IPCA, Brazil's official inflation index, fell 0.32% in August, recording the first monthly deflation since August of last year. The result was driven mainly by a 7.63% drop in residential electricity tariffs and a 0.34% decline in the Food and beverages group. Over 12 months, the index rose 4.22%, remaining below the upper limit of the central bank's continuous target, which is 3% with a margin of 1.5 percentage points.
