Taxi rides departing from Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon, will now have a minimum fare of 16 euros starting October 15. The change provides for a fixed-price model, presented as a way to provide greater security to passengers who use this transport. The agreement between the municipality, sector associations, tourism representatives and the airport operator will be signed on Friday, September 11.
The justification for this measure is related to the problems identified in the service provided at the airport. The president of the Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, stated that "for more than 30 years there have been problems of insecurity and scams at the airport." In August, an inspection was carried out on 100 vehicles, with infractions found in 67 of them.
Participating in the agreement are the Lisbon City Council, the National Association of Light Vehicle Road Transport, the Portuguese Taxi Federation, the Lisbon Tourism Association and ANA, Aeroportos de Portugal. The announced measure only concerns taxis at the capital's airport.
In parallel, a revision of the TVDE regime allows taxis to integrate into this activity, provided they comply with the applicable requirements and are registered with a licensed platform. However, taxi associations point to an "unjustified competitive advantage" and "inequality between operators", while TVDE representatives contest aspects of the transitional regime.
