More buildings and dwellings licensed in the 1st semester, but construction completed in Madeira declines

dnoticias.pt11 September 2026 at 11:12

Madeira licensed 330 buildings in the first semester of 2026, representing a 19.1% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, when 277 buildings had been licensed. This growth in licensing contrasts with the evolution observed in construction completions.

The data reveals an inverse trend regarding buildings and dwellings effectively completed, which registered year-on-year declines in the first semester. This difference between licensing growth and the decline in completions suggests a time lag between authorization and finalization of works.

Of the building and demolition works licensed between January and June, 246 corresponded to new constructions, representing 74.5% of total licenses granted. Of these new constructions, 225 were destined for family housing, corresponding to 91% of total new constructions licensed.
