EDP exchanges gas for electricity and avoids 830 tonnes of CO₂ in a Portuguese factory

EDP and Paper Prime put into operation a 2.7 megawatt electric boiler in the company's industrial unit in Vila Velha de Ródão. This project is considered pioneering in Portugal in the industrial sector.

The electric boiler allows replacing part of the natural gas consumption with electricity in the steam production process. With this solution, it is possible to avoid the emission of 830 tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere.

The partnership between the two companies aims to decarbonize industrial activity, using cleaner energy sources. The project represents a milestone in the energy transition of the Portuguese industrial sector.
