The bishop of Beja, D. Fernando Paiva, announced that the Diocese of Beja intends to extend the School of Theological Culture to other geographical areas of the diocese, after the success of the first year. In a video message, the bishop stated that the response to the project was "very positive" and that "more brothers and sisters" could benefit from this training.
More than 30 students completed the first year of the School of Theological Culture between January and June 2026. Aimed at laypeople, religious and pastoral collaborators, the training focused on Sacred Scripture and the world in which the biblical texts were born, covering topics such as 'The World of the Bible', 'Law and Prophets', 'Synoptic Gospels', 'Johannine Writings' and 'Pauline Letters', with face-to-face classes at the Diocesan Seminary in Beja.
D. Fernando Paiva considered that the "interest and persistence of the students are an excellent sign of the desire to deepen the faith" and stated that this attitude opens the way for "a better formed and more capable laity". The bishop also thanked the teachers, especially Father Pedro Rodrigues, director of the school, for the "generosity, time and wisdom shared with such dedication".
The director of the School of Theological Culture, Father Pedro Rodrigues, announced that in the pastoral year 2026/2027 the project will welcome current students and all those who wish to "grow in faith and acquire a more solid preparation for the mission".
