Bragança hosts, between September 12 and December 15, the sixth edition of Bragança ClassicFest, which this year strengthens its international dimension by extending its programming to Spain. The festival opens on September 12, at the Church of São Francisco, with a concert by the Juventus Ensemble, followed the next day by a performance at the Teatro Principal de Zamora, in a new cross-border cultural partnership between Bragança and Spain.
One of the main moments of the festival takes place on September 26 and 27, at the Municipal Theatre of Bragança, with the debut in Portugal of the Orchestra Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala from Milan. Under the direction of violinist Mario Hossen, the Italian ensemble presents works by Vivaldi and Paganini.
The program also includes other highlights such as O Bando de Surunyo, the DSCH Shostakovich Ensemble with Maria Rueff in "The Carnival of the Animals," a recital by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro dedicated to Liszt, and the performance of the Budapest Chamber Orchestra. The edition is also marked by the creation of Bragança ClassicLab, a new platform dedicated to training, artistic creation and research.
The festival ends on December 15, at the Municipal Theatre of Bragança, with "A Christmas Concert," which pairs music by Schubert and Dvořák with "A Christmas Carol," by Charles Dickens. With artistic direction by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, Bragança ClassicFest is promoted by the Municipality of Bragança, Municipal Theatre of Bragança and DSCH – Musical Association.
