Olhão Markets compete in the final of the New Wonders of Portugal tomorrow

Jornal do Algarve11 September 2026 at 09:46

The National Grand Final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal takes place on Saturday, September 12, at 9:30 PM, live on TVI, with the participation of the 21 finalists. The Municipal Markets of Olhão are the only representative from the Algarve in this final, having over a century of history and being considered one of the greatest symbols of the city and its relationship with Ria Formosa, fishing, gastronomy, and commercial activity.

The Markets have the support of various personalities for their candidacy, including André Gomes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region, visual artist Joana Vasconcelos, Olhão DJ Pete Tha Zouk, content creator João Cajuda, chef Noélia Jerónimo as godmother of the candidacy, presenter Maya, actor Diogo Infante, and Olhão footballer Gonçalo Ramos.

The mayor, Ricardo Calé, stated that it is very significant to see so many people from different areas recognizing the value of the Markets and wanting to contribute to the candidacy. The mayor highlighted that there are those who were born in Olhão, those who grew up in the city, those who built part of their professional or emotional life there, and those who simply recognize in the Markets a greater expression of Algarve identity.

Those interested can vote for the Municipal Markets of Olhão through the number 761207097 or on the TVI Pass App.
