The vocal group 'Cupertinos' returns to the Basilica of Congregados, in Braga, to present the concert 'Veni Sponsa Christi – The Song of Songs in Renaissance Polyphony', on Friday, September 11, at 7:00 PM. The event is under the direction of Pedro Teixeira.
The program highlights Portuguese polyphony from the 16th and 17th centuries, with Manuel Cardoso's 'Missa Veni Sponsa Christi' as the central work. This composition dialogues with the homonymous motet by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, which served as its model.
The concert also includes works by Tomás Luis de Victoria, Estêvão de Brito and Pedro de Cristo, offering an approach to the poetic and spiritual richness of the 'Song of Songs'.
The performance shows how Renaissance polyphony transformed the language of love into an expression of the sacred.
