The trial of two police officers from the Rato station, suspected of torture crimes, begins this Friday. The two accused face serious charges and will be tried in a Lisbon court.
One of the police officers is accused of 29 crimes, while the other faces seven charges. Both have been in preventive detention since July 2025, which indicates that authorities considered it necessary to keep them detained during this period.
The torture charges allegedly refer to acts committed in the exercise of their duties at the Rato police station, one of the police stations in the Portuguese capital. The case has generated media attention due to the seriousness of the charges.
