Back to school begins with GNR special operation at 4,400 schools

Notícias de Coimbra11 September 2026 at 07:55

The National Republican Guard (GNR) began today the "Safe School" operation for the 2026/2027 school year. This operation aims to guarantee safety during the back to school period and will cover a total of 4,400 schools across the country.

The operation includes a set of measures and actions directed at the school community, including the presence of military personnel near educational establishments. The main objective is to guarantee the safety of students, teachers, and other school staff during the return to academic activities.

This initiative is part of a broader GNR strategy of proximity to the educational community. The "Safe School" operation is traditionally launched at the beginning of each school year and includes awareness actions in addition to regular surveillance.

The GNR thus reinforces its commitment to safety in Portuguese schools, implementing special arrangements during the first days of classes to prevent incidents and guarantee a safe environment for the school community.
