A fugitive from Pará's justice system, suspected of sexually abusing more than ten women in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Pará, and Maranhão, was arrested this Thursday in Vargem Grande, in Rio's West Zone. Jailton Napoles Correa Menezes, known as pastor Jailton Nápoles, was located on Estrada dos Bandeirantes, in the vicinity of the César Maia community, by officers from the Undersecretariat of Intelligence (SSINTE/SEPOL), who executed a preventive detention warrant against the suspect.
According to the Civil Police, the pastor took advantage of his position as a spiritual leader to establish a relationship of trust with the victims and commit the abuses. Victims have been identified in the states of Rio, Pará, and Maranhão, and the department is also investigating suspected similar occurrences in Amazonas and Rio Grande do Sul.
Jailton Nápoles was known as a pastor in the city of Santa Izabel, in Pará. He also ran for elections, as indicated by the Civil Police, although the information regarding the outcome of the election was not detailed in the police report.
