PF Operation Dismantles Flavio Bolsonaro's Discourse About 'Dark Horse'

The Federal Police carried out an operation with searches at the home of actor, stunt double, and current federal deputy Mario Frias, seizing seven firearms, including a Slovak carbine and a double-barreled shotgun of Old West style. The operation was mentioned as a counterpoint to Senator Flavio Bolsonaro's discourse about the so-called "Dark Horse" theme.

Mario Frias was the Culture Secretary during the Jair Bolsonaro government and used the position to attack artists who criticized the president, such as Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Anitta, Taís Araújo, and Ivete Sangalo. He also made severe criticisms of the Rouanet Law, the main mechanism for incentivizing cultural production in the country, repeating that "the free ride is over" when defending restrictive measures.

Mario Frias's ideological transformation, from actor of the soap opera "Malhação" and protagonist of "Bela, a Feia," to defender of the extreme right, provided him with political prestige that he had not achieved in his artistic career. With this change, he gained new allies, increased his follower base, and managed to get elected to the Chamber of Deputies.

Mario Frias was elected with three times the votes obtained by fellow artist Tiririca, his party colleague at PL in São Paulo, demonstrating the political mobilization power that his conversion to the right provided him.

Peter Feaver, former Bush advisor: "Trump arrived at the White House rejecting the Iraq invasion and now his base sees Iran as another 'stupid war'"

Peter Feaver, former National Security Advisor to George W. Bush between 2005 and 2007, analyzes 25 years after the September 11 attacks how these transformed the use of US military power, conditioned two decades of foreign policy, and contributed to creating the political scenario that brought Donald Trump to the White House. Feaver, currently director of the Center for International and Security Strategy at Duke University, highlights that Trump came to power rejecting the Iraq invasion and that his base now sees Iran as another "stupid war," showing how the post-9/11 military experience shaped public perception of international conflicts.
