The president of the Supreme Federal Court, Justice Edson Fachin, requested the lifting of secrecy on the investigations related to the Banco Master case, which are under the rapporteurship of Justice André Mendonça. The measure expands access for the other members of the Court to the content of the inquiry and occurs amid an internal crisis at the STF and shortly before the first round of elections.
The decision, however, does not mean that all the content of the investigation will be immediately made available to the public. Fachin determined that diligences whose secrecy is considered essential for the execution of investigative measures be preserved.
One of the main effects of the decision is to expand internal access to the evidence and documents gathered by the Federal Police. According to Professor Gladstone Leonel da Silva Júnior, until then the material was restricted to the rapporteur of the case. With the lifting of secrecy, the other justices will be able to analyze the content of the investigation.
