The German cruise ship AIDAperla, over 300 meters long and with capacity for more than three thousand people, violently collided against a breakwater during a storm at the French port of Le Havre. The ship, weighing more than 125 thousand tons, hit the port with its rear section. The vessel's crew tried to avoid the collision but could not prevent the impact.
The accident occurred on Tuesday morning, October 8. At the moment of the collision, thousands of people were on board the cruise ship, which was on a seven-day itinerary between Hamburg, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Le Havre and Southampton. Despite the severity of the impact, no one was injured.
Some passengers were able to disembark normally to take tours in Paris and other destinations in France after arriving at the port. The incident was recorded on video and widely shared.
