Austrian woman dies after being assaulted and abused by husband: case already dubbed "Pelicot 2.0"

SIC Notícias10 September 2026 at 19:16

An Austrian woman died in June after being assaulted and sexually abused by her own husband while she was "extremely drunk". The case is being investigated by Austrian authorities, who are trying to determine if other people are involved in the crime.

The investigation is ongoing to clarify all the details surrounding the circumstances of her death and potential involvement of other individuals. The police are working to verify if there were other suspects besides the husband.

The case is being dubbed "Pelicot 2.0", in reference to the court case involving Frenchwoman Gisèle Pelicot. In that case, Pelicot's ex-husband was convicted of aggravated rape, after it was shown that he had repeatedly drugged her over the years so that she could be abused by various men.

The comparison with the Pelicot case arises from the fact that both situations involve women supposedly incapacitated by their respective husbands and subsequently abused, which has raised debates about domestic violence and sexual crimes in Europe.
