IMF sees long-term inflation expectations stable despite war in Iran

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) considered that, despite the war in Iran, global long-term inflation expectations remain stable, although they increased this year. In July, the IMF revised upward to 4.7% the forecast for global inflation for 2026. IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack recalled that previous projections estimated a substantial decrease of the conflict or a peace agreement, which did not materialize. Currently, the barrel of oil is hovering around the symbolic mark of 100 dollars and hydrocarbon traffic through the Strait of Hormuz represents only one tenth of the pre-war level. Director-General Kristalina Georgieva warned that the energy crisis could worsen in the coming months due to the reduction of strategic reserves, winter in the northern hemisphere, and increased energy demand from artificial intelligence.
