Cristóvão Norte guarantees workers' rights at ULS Algarve who attend Medical school

Postal do Algarve10 September 2026 at 18:33

Deputy Cristóvão Norte, elected for the PSD, stated that the rights of worker-students at the Local Health Unit (ULS) of the Algarve will be respected. The parliamentarian revealed that he had contacted the president of ULS Algarve after doubts arose about the situation of workers at the institution who attend the Medical course at the University of Algarve, ensuring that this matter is not at all in question.

Cristóvão Norte recalled his involvement in defending the creation of the Medical course in the region, highlighting that, in 2005, he led a petition signed by approximately 10,000 people in favor of medical training in the Algarve. The deputy emphasized that the course was born with an innovative dimension, allowing people with prior higher education to embrace Medicine, and defended the preservation of that spirit.

The deputy considers the Medical course a strategic asset for the Algarve, especially considering the future university dimension of the new hospital, and proposes a closer collaboration between the University of Algarve and health services. Cristóvão Norte defended the creation of scholarships for ULS collaborators who attend Medical school and commit to remaining at the institution, already as doctors, for a determined number of years, emphasizing that the Algarve needs to train and retain health professionals.
