A hiker suffered permanent injuries that "changed her life forever" after being attacked by a brown bear in Montana, United States. The woman, identified only as Aubrey in an online fundraising campaign, was attacked on August 31 while walking with her dog on a trail in Columbia Falls. The attack was carried out by a brown bear accompanied by at least one cub, reported local environmental authorities.

The Montana Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (FWP) classified the incident as "an unexpected defensive encounter." Specific medical details about Aubrey's injuries were not disclosed by authorities due to public health confidentiality laws.

Supporters described Aubrey as an outdoor enthusiast. According to the GoFundMe campaign information, she was transported by plane to Seattle to receive emergency surgery. Her dog, Frankie, was not injured during the attack.
