Three-year-old child allegedly abandoned by mother in Amadora: minor was already flagged by CPCJ

SIC Notícias10 September 2026 at 17:52

A three-year-old child was allegedly abandoned by her mother on a public street in Amadora. The case reportedly occurred when the mother left the minor alone on the street, without any supervision.

Two kindergarten teachers were responsible for finding the child crying on the public street. After assessing the situation, the teachers alerted the competent authorities to intervene at the location.

The child was already flagged by the Child and Youth Protection Commission (CPCJ), which means there were already processes or prior alerts related to the minor's well-being with this protection entity.

The child's mother has been charged with the crime of exposure or abandonment, a crime provided for in Portuguese law that punishes anyone who exposes or abandons a vulnerable person, such as a child, in a place where they are at risk of physical harm.

The messages include references such as "Welcome to the AT authentication service" and a button to "Start authentication," seeking to convince victims to click on fraudulent links and provide personal data.
