The Aqueduct of Vila do Conde secured a place in the final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, in the category of Great Works, after being announced as one of the three national finalists during a broadcast transmitted by TVI last Saturday from the National Palace of Pena, in Sintra.
The candidacy, promoted by the Municipal Chamber of Vila do Conde, has gathered expressive support throughout the various phases of the competition, mobilizing the local community and many voters outside the municipality. The monument, built between the 17th and 18th centuries to supply the former Convent of Santa Clara, extends for several kilometres between Vila do Conde and the parish of Terroso, in Póvoa de Varzim.
In the category of Great Works, the Aqueduct of Vila do Conde competes for the title with the Aqueduct of Amoreira, in Elvas, and the Aqueduct of Usseira, in Óbidos. Only one will be the winner, in a decision that depends exclusively on public voting.
The National Grand Final takes place already on Saturday, September 12, broadcast live by TVI, where the winners of the seven categories will be revealed. Voting remains open until then, through the number 761 207 004.
