The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has strengthened its meteorological observation network in the Atlantic Ocean through the VOS PortugaL Program. The program aims to coordinate and implement the Portuguese automatic meteorological observation system aboard ships that voluntarily participate in the initiative.
The system is part of the international VOS — Voluntary Observing Ship program, which includes the participation of ships from various nations. IPMA is responsible for ensuring the correct implementation of this observation system.
The initiative enables continuous monitoring of meteorological and oceanographic conditions, contributing to improved data collection in the Atlantic. This strengthening of the network aims to enhance ocean monitoring capabilities.
