While the Artemis program prepares an Italian habitation module for the Moon, researchers from NASA and biomaterials studied in Hong Kong are testing 3D-printed houses for Mars using regolith and yeast. This research points to new ways of creating habitats in space.

Scientists are exploring the use of local materials, such as Martian regolith, combined with living organisms like yeast, to build habitable structures. This approach could significantly reduce the need to transport materials from Earth for long-duration space missions.

The Artemis program remains focused on the Moon as an intermediate step, with the Italian habitation module representing an important step toward sustained human presence in space. However, research on Mars suggests bolder solutions for the future colonization of the Red Planet.
