Alto Minho10 September 2026 at 17:18

The Municipality of Vila Verde kicked off the new academic year with two training actions aimed at inclusion and capacity building of school professionals in the municipality. The initiatives intended to prepare the school community to support neurodivergent children and those with diabetes.

The first training, entitled "Neurodivergent Children (ADHD/Autism) – Strategies in School Context", was aimed at both teaching and non-teaching staff. This session addressed strategies to understand and support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

The second training, which ran for its 2nd edition, was "Diabetes in School Context", intended for non-teaching staff. This initiative was promoted in partnership with the Endocrinology Team of Braga Hospital and the School Health Team, and included a practical component on blood glucose monitoring, nutrition, insulin administration, and response to hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia situations.

Education Councilor Manuel Lopes considered these trainings "priority and urgent", highlighting that they enable professionals to be equipped with tools to guarantee greater safety, inclusion, autonomy, and well-being for children and young people in the municipality.
