Alpedrinha, in the municipality of Fundão, will host on September 19 two specialized canine exhibitions dedicated to herding dog breeds and livestock guardian breeds. The exhibitions are integrated into the program of Chocalhos – Festival of the Transhumance Paths.
The initiative aims to highlight the fundamental role that dogs play in pastoral activity, distinguishing two essential functions in livestock management. Herding dogs are responsible for guiding and gathering flocks, while guardian dogs are dedicated to defending animals from predators.
This event is part of a festival that celebrates transhumance and the traditional paths associated with herding, valuing traditions and knowledge linked to the Portuguese rural world. The exhibitions will allow visitors to learn more about the characteristics and abilities of these working breeds.
