The Serpa Secondary School will be requalified, after the Municipal Council saw its financing application approved for the construction work, in a total investment of 12 million euros. The municipal executive, led by socialist Francisco Picareta, has developed a set of initiatives in recent months to secure financing for this work, which was considered an urgent necessity due to the high state of degradation that the school has presented for several years.
The approval of the application now allows the start of the contracting procedures for the work, with an execution period of two and a half years after the contract award. The municipality states that the requalification will soon address the existing deficiencies with a requalified and modern school.
The Serpa Council acknowledges that, in recent years, financing opportunities under Portugal 2030 and the PRR were missed. The municipality explains that the option of not having considered requalification as a priority and the understanding that this would not be a responsibility of the municipality now results in an additional financial cost of approximately two million euros for the municipality.
In addition to the negative financial impact, the municipality highlights that the greatest cost was that of the missed opportunities for thousands of students and for the modernization of means and conditions of work and learning, with direct damage to the competitiveness and quality of the educational offer in the municipality.
