The Volta System collected over 305 million single-use beverage containers, between bottles and cans, in the first five months since its implementation. The managing entity SDR Portugal made the announcement through a press release.
The number of containers collected tripled in the last two months, which demonstrates very significant growth in consumer participation in the system. This accelerated growth occurred since the official launch of the system on April 10.
The Deposit and Refund System allows consumers to return beverage containers after use, in exchange for a refund. This model aims to promote recycling and reduce the environmental impact of packaging waste.
