Over 167 thousand retirees and pensioners from the state of Rio de Janeiro will need to perform the digital life proof starting in October. According to Rioprevidência, there are 110,446 retirees and 56,561 pensioners who will need to perform the facial recognition procedure on their smartphone.

The first policyholders to be called are the approximately 13 thousand retirees and pensioners with October birthdays. The deadline for this group is from October 5 to November 2, 2026. The call sequence will continue for the following 12 months, always following each beneficiary's birth month.

The procedure will be carried out through the Gov.br portal, using the cell phone camera for facial recognition. This way, policyholders will be able to comply with the requirement without leaving home. To complete the process, it is essential that the beneficiary has a Gov.br registration with biometric validation.

"Uncertainty that 'changes things overnight' prevents Lagarde from signaling next step"

The European Central Bank (ECB) raised interest rates by 25 basis points on Thursday, unanimously and "obviously", but President Christine Lagarde firmly refused to signal the next steps, explaining that the high level of geopolitical uncertainty prevents any future path from being anticipated. "We are not taking a position on the direction to follow at our next meeting," she stated, emphasizing that all discussions focused solely on that day's decision. Lagarde reiterated, however, the ECB's commitment to meeting the 2% inflation target, although the new projections show the ECB no longer expects to reach this target before 2028, now forecasting inflation of 3% this year, 2.5% in 2027, and 2.1% in 2028. Regarding the recent rise in sovereign debt yields, the president noted that it is a global phenomenon, not specific to the euro area, and recalled the separation of roles between markets and the ECB.
