Goodbye walks: a funicular will be inaugurated on this date that will give you a 'lift' to this beach without having to walk kilometers on foot

The Pederneira Funicular, in Nazaré, should open in January 2027, creating a public transport connection between the upper area and the beach. With about 200 meters in length and an investment of 10 million euros fully funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, the equipment will have the capacity to transport up to 300 people per hour in each direction, with capacity for 40 passengers per trip. The works are practically completed, but tests and certifications need to be completed by the end of the year. The project includes accessibility for people with reduced mobility and bicycle transport, aiming to reduce automobile dependence and greenhouse gas emissions. The four-story building will have glass openings and lighting that will evoke the image of a lighthouse at night.
