House rents rise 5.2% in August - INE

House rents per square meter increased 5.2% in August compared to the same month in 2025, according to INE data. This growth represents a slowdown of 0.1 percentage points compared to July. All regions of the country recorded year-on-year increases in rents. INE, the National Statistics Institute, was the source responsible for this data.

Chega insists on inquiry committee into Luís Neves amid clash with Aguiar-Branco

Chega submitted a new request to Parliament on Thursday to establish an inquiry committee into Luís Neves's management at the Judicial Police, after its motion of censure against the Government was rejected. The party intends for the inquiry committee to be constituted on September 15, when the Assembly of the Republic resumes its normal operation. The submission of this new request comes after José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, president of the Assembly of the Republic, warned that he could reject the proposal if Chega did not amend the grounds and subject matter, pointing to "insufficiencies in the delimitation". Although Chega states that Aguiar-Branco's doubts are "devoid of any legal and constitutional basis" and maintains the original subject matter concerning Luís Neves's mandates, the party has introduced changes, now also proposing to examine the contracts awarded by the PJ to Construbarcelos and verify the existence of conflicts of interest in the contracting of that company.
