The Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, explained that the implementation of a single cycle between the 1st and 6th years of schooling implies changes to the curricular framework. This change represents a significant restructuring of basic education in Portugal.

The minister stated that the pilot project for this measure will start in the 2027/2028 school year. The program will be implemented in an expanded set of schools across the country.

However, Fernando Alexandre noted that the exact number of educational establishments that will participate in this pilot project has not yet been defined. The selection of schools and operational details are still being defined.

Oncology in Portalegre: Movement in defense of Rui Dinis moves forward with exhibition and silent march

The movement "Valorizar Quem Cuida" (Value Those Who Care), which brings together oncology patients, family members and friends in Portalegre, announced new protest actions against the reorganization of the Oncology Service at Hospital Doutor José Maria Grande, if no responses are received by September 17. The group is preparing to send an exhibition to municipalities, deputies, the Ministry of Health and other entities, and threatens to hold a silent march from Praça da República to the hospital. The main concern relates to the possible reduction of activity of oncologist Rui Dinis, whom patients consider essential for the inland region, where they already face difficulties accessing healthcare and are forced to travel to other parts of the country for treatment.
