A new heat episode is on the horizon for mainland Portugal, with temperatures set to rise between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius in the northern half of the country starting tomorrow, Friday, September 11th. This thermal recovery comes after a brief period of cool weather generated by the passage of post-frontal polar air, which caused a sharp cooling in mainland Portugal on September 8th and 9th.
Starting today, Thursday, September 10th, a relatively mild and slow recovery of maximum temperatures will begin. The rise will be more pronounced tomorrow, Friday, and even more intense from Saturday, September 12th. The heat peak is forecast for Monday, September 14th.
At the origin of this synoptic configuration will be the well-known "African ridge," which will consist of the expansion and extension of the anticyclonic ridge, stretching from the vicinity of the Azores and Madeira to the Iberian Peninsula, bringing with it warm air masses of African origin.
