Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Federal Court will make a statement on Thursday (10), at 11 a.m., amid the institutional crisis affecting the Court. This will be his first public statement since the beginning of the confrontation with Justice André Mendonça, which intensified over the past two weeks.
The conflict gained momentum after Mendonça removed the secrecy from a case that revealed messages exchanged between Moraes and businessman Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master. In response, Moraes asked STF President Edson Fachin to open an investigation against Mendonça for suspected administrative misconduct and abuse of authority in conducting cases related to Banco Master and the INSS.
To support the request, Moraes turned to the fake news inquiry, opened by the Supreme Court itself in 2019 to investigate fraudulent news, false reports of crimes, slanderous accusations, threats, and other attacks against the court, its justices, and their families.
