Crime in the Municipality of Espinho decreased by 23% compared to the same period in the previous year, according to information released by the local authority following a meeting of the Municipal Civil Protection Commission and the Municipal Security Council. In parallel, the protection and rescue activity carried out by the Espinho Municipality Fire Brigade increased by 18%, which, according to the City Council, demonstrates the intensity of the response provided by rescue resources.
During the bathing season, which this year was extended until September 20, 618 incidents were recorded between January 1 and August 31 in the context of assistance to bathers and water rescue, including 13 water rescues. Of these incidents, 57 resulted in hospital evacuation, and the First Aid Station installed on Baía beach recorded 475 assists.
The City Council announced that new investments are underway to strengthen resilience and municipal response capacity, covering areas such as emergency accommodation, telecommunications, generators, wastewater pumping capacity, transport and storage of drinking water and fuel in emergency situations.
Jorge Ratola, president of the local authority, considered that the results demonstrate that Espinho is a safe municipality with solid response capacity, as a result of coordinated work between different entities. The mayor stated that the City Council is preparing for autumn and winter, reinforcing resources, equipment and response capacity, noting that the rainy season ahead requires preparation and anticipation.
