The Public Ministry and the Civil and Military Police of São Paulo carried out on Thursday (10) operation Frank Mobile against a gang suspected of stealing, robbing, tampering with and reselling cell phones across the country. The action fulfills seven arrest warrants and almost 90 search and seizure orders, mainly in the central region of São Paulo's capital.
The investigation indicates that the cell phones are stolen on the streets, taken at large events or removed from vehicles with broken windows. Then, the devices are taken to irregular trade points in the center, mainly in the areas of Rua Guaianases and Rua 25 de Março.
According to the investigation, part of the criminals attempts to access victims' bank accounts to make Pix transfers and also take out loans. The criminal chain is organized in four stages, from the removal of the devices from the victims to the resale in the formal market.
