The Government intends to create from 2027 a Sustainability Fund for the Douro Demarcated Region, a permanent mechanism that will be financed by the wine sector itself. The objective is to reduce dependence on extraordinary public support in the future.
The Fund will function as an autonomous financing mechanism, sustained by the sector's agents, allowing greater predictability and economic sustainability for the region.
The 2026-2027 campaign will have an exceptional support of 12 million euros, representing an extraordinary public intervention while the new permanent mechanism does not yet come into effect.
This measure arises in the context of valorization and protection of the Douro Demarcated Region, one of the most important wine-producing zones in Portugal, seeking to guarantee the continuity of activity through the sector's own financing.
