"Lobos" from the sea

Madeira Opina10 September 2026 at 11:03

The administrator of Porto Santo Line, Carlos Perdigão Santos, was present at the JPP parliamentary sessions dedicated to the ferry and territorial continuity. During his intervention, he stated that the company is absolutely available to analyze and bid for the international tender when it is launched, depending on the financing that the Central or Regional State decides to present. The author of the piece notes that the remaining parties were not present at these sessions.

The columnist criticizes JPP for having invited only Porto Santo Line, a company of Grupo Sousa, considering that this businessman "sniffs out subsidy solutions" and that he boycotted the island of Porto Santo for years. The author questions why other stakeholders were not invited, pointing out that JPP seems to be inheriting vices from PSD through proximity.

The author draws parallels with Miguel Albuquerque, who in 2015 opposed Jardim but ended up being a copy of him. According to the text, JPP is rehearsing a version B of PSD with the same players, when it should bring fresh air and other policies, instead of isolated invitations that may brand those who participate in them.

The author concludes that JPP is not noticing the shots it takes at its own feet, and that if the ferry does not operate between January and mid-February on the Madeira-Continente route, complaints should be directed to JPP. He appeals for the party not to be a third copy of the original, referring to Jardim and Albuquerque.
