French justice has opened an investigation to determine whether former Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo and her successor, Emmanuel Grégoire, took action to address reported cases of sexual assaults in the capital's schools. The investigation was announced by Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau after a complaint filed by approximately 15 families gathered around the MeTooEcole association.

The families have children enrolled in various schools in Paris and asked justice to examine what the officials knew about the alleged assaults committed by activity monitors for extracurricular activities and whether they took measures to stop them.

Beccuau told France Inter radio that the reports were received and investigations were opened. According to the prosecutor, several complaints from different sources were grouped together as part of the case.
