The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for an attack on a tourist camp in Mozambique. The attack resulted in the death of at least one person and forced approximately 2,700 people to flee the affected area.
In addition to the tourist camp, other establishments in the region were destroyed during the action. The camp that was hit belonged to a Portuguese-Mozambican football coach, who saw his structure completely destroyed by the attack.
Islamic State attacks in the northern region of Mozambique have been recurring in recent years, causing mass displacements and destroying local infrastructure. This new attack once again highlights the insecurity in the region.
