Fire on ship during maintenance leaves several victims at port in China

The fire hit on Thursday a cargo ship flying a foreign flag docked for maintenance at the port of Qingdao, in Shandong province, in eastern China. The fire caused "several victims," according to information from Chinese state media.

The ship belongs to Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and suffered the fire during its stop at the port for maintenance. The state agency Xinhua confirmed that the incident resulted in many victims.

Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered an urgent search and rescue operation to locate the missing people. Xi also ordered that the teams carry out the investigation of responsibilities for the incident.

Arrested for possession of prohibited weapons

The arrest came as a result of an investigation into domestic violence that had been ongoing for about two months, with a home search warrant being executed.
